Your faith in Christ Jesus,

The love which ye have to all the saints,

The hope which is arranged up for you in heaven

(Col. 1:4,5).

Evidently Paul had ne'er yet seen the Colossian Christians when he wrote to them (Col. 2:1). He had one and only heard of their change to Christ (Col. 1:4,5).

But what had he heard that had convinced him that they were reliably saved? Our pipe hallway gives us the answer:

"We heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the love which ye have to all the saints, for the hope which is laid up for you in shangri-la...."

But was this enough authentication that God had worked in their hearts? Would it be trace adequate today?

Some answer: "No. We essential have the offering of the Holy Spirit and talk next to tongues, or work miracles." And this writer essential concede that this quondam was conclusive corroboration of recovery. Our Lord's remarkable committee to the xi manifestly states:

"And these signs shall follow them that believe: In My cross shall they issue out devils [demons], they shall speak up near new tongues;

"They shall transport up serpents; and if they potion any terminal thing, it shall not sadden them; they shall lay keeping on the sick, and they shall recover" (Mark 16:17,18).

This is the comprehendible Word of God on the subject, and too some disorientated fundamentalists and evangelicals run in circles testing to pass on it away.

When Peter preached to Cornelius and his household, "the Holy Spirit brutal on all them which detected the Word" (Acts 10:44). But how did Peter and his companions know that those of Cornelius' home had accepted the Spirit? Verse 46 provides the answer: "For they detected them articulate near tongues and amplify God." It was this that prescribed the substance for Peter reported to his own evidence in Acts 11:17:

"Forasmuch, then, as God gave them the approaching grant as He did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, what was I, that I could resist God?"

And it was this that dictated the matter for the apostles and elders in Judaea too, for we read in the adjacent verse:

"When they heard these things, they held their peace, and authorised God, saying, Then hath God as well to the Gentiles granted remorse unto duration."

Ah, but in attendance has been a revise in dispensations since that occurrence. In I Corinthians 13:8 we read:

"Whether location be tongues, they shall cease...."

In this identical section of I Corinthians we read of opposite signs (1) that were to be finished away, but the terminal limerick of I Corinthians says:

"And now abideth faith, hope, charity [love], these three; but the greatest of these is compassion [love]."

These, then, are the abiding characteristics of the right Church in this award permission.

The hassle with our Pentecostal friends and at sea fundamentalists in general, is not that they are not Scriptural in their teachings, but that they are not dispensational; they have has-been to "rightly part the Word of actuality."

The premiere of these iii "abiding" characteristics is faith. This is of primary importance, for, "without principle it is infeasible to oblige God" (Heb. 11:6). And creed produces hope. In a worldwide of joylessness and fear, the champion may "abound in hope." And this belief is no mere wish, for it is supported on the Word of God, "an anchor of the soul, some confident and unbendable..." (Heb. 6:19). It is the enjoyment, present and now, by faith, of the blessings which are ours in Christ and shall whichever day be to the full realized.

And hope, in turn, produces love. The awfully change of state we are poring over speaks of "the respect which ye have to all the saints, for [because of] (2) the confidence which is ordered up for you in eden." The blessings which are ours in Christ sketch us-certainly should copy us-closer both. The human we are raddled to our fortunate Lord, the individual we are haggard to each else.

Faith, optimism and love, then, are the three permanent evidences of release. Any district religion where these 3 characteristics be is a full church, even if it is collected of merely a few members. Any friend possessing these cardinal characteristics in riotous consider experiences a full Christian existence.

Water naming was former required for salvation, and miraculous signs were the evidences of support (Mark 16:16-18; Acts 1:8; 2:38), but let us not devise disorder and severance by pains to proceed on in a giving out which God has replaced by something in good health.

The simplest believer in this dealing out of grace is complete in Christ (Col. 2:10), crucified (Gal. 2:20), resurrected (Col. 2:13), and seated in the heavenlies (Eph. 2:6), IN CHRIST. And the actuality of transmutation to Christ is echt by "faith, hope, love, these three," rather than by marvellous signs or demonstrations.

Shall we later wish to replace what God has "done away"? Shall we say, Let us be baptized beside wet as a evidence and seek the signs for spiritual renewal, even after God has provided something better? Shall we withdrawal from the compound to the shadows? No! God says: "When that which is perfect [i.e., complete ] (3) is come, after that which is in fragment shall be done away....And now abideth faith, hope, love, these three..." (I Cor. 13:10-13).

These iii permanent evidences of support are brought both in I Corinthians 13:13; Gal. 5:5,6; I Thes. 1:3; 5:8; II Thes. 1:3; Heb. 6:10-12 and many an other than places in Paul's epistles. Why not facial expression them up, search them prayerfully, and experience in the assets of God's grace.
